Skittle Art

Today in class we remade pictures out of skittles to resemble the idea of pixels. Creating a grid on the picture was to help go row by row. I feel as if this project was easy based off the picture you choose. It was interesting to see the outcome of everyone's pictures especially because I've never heard of this type of project. My image is a remake of a butterfly, I made the outline of the butterfly a brighter color than the original picture to make the skittle outcome have more of a color pop. Overall I felt as if this project would've been easier if I did a slightly simpler picture. When I finally finished I was actually surprised how it turned out because I didn't think I was going to be able to finish it properly. I am looking forward to see the outcomes of our next project.

Stage Door Blog

I was very intrigued by this blog as I read through it. Mary Poppins has been one of my top three favorite movies since I was little, and when Mary Poppins Returns came out my mom & I went on opening day. So seeing that the first blog was about the film, it caught my attention right away. Reading what they had to say about this new film really changed my perspecive on it though because I never looked at it for the bad and struggle that was going on. I went into it with an excited, flash back of being a kid again feeling, not at all thinking how they were struggling so much. The original made everything seem happy and Mary Poppins made everything so magical. The new film makes me think it was trying to show the true meaning of Mary Poppins and stressing what was actually going on with this family the whole time.
No one ever uses Mary Poppins as a topic or option of films so opening up the blog and seeing that it was written about it, made me excited to read. It also is a great way to see the difference in the quality and technology from then to now. What also caught my eye was the intro about Broadway and the sixties being the start up again of shows and film popularity. Around the 1940's-1950's, Broadway shows and films became less popular because of the invention of the radio and TV. People felt that leaving their houses and paying everytime was pointless when they could stay at home and watch or listen on the radio.

Flex Festival

The film on the Carolina Chocolate Drops was very interesting to watch. I've personally never heard of them until I saw this film. I love that they were able to be fully supported by society and not hated on or not able to go anywhere with their music. It's rare for African Americans to be able to try and build their fame around old based music. They were able to grasp everyone's attention and bring back a genre of music that people mostly forgot about. Their music is still popular for many age groups in today's society and they are a creative style of their own. I feel as if they are well known and liked by many people because it's rare to be able to still here that kind of music live anymore. I was pleased to see this film and learn more of a culture that I didn't think was still around. Trying to keep as many types of genres, cultures, styles, etc, up to todays society should be stressed more. Keeping generations informed of what life was before all this technology and having the knowledge is super important I think. So much is forgotten about or not taught to younger age groups as years go on and I feel as though it is a huge thing to keep learning about.

Madama Butterfly

This animated version of Madama Butterfly is a woman who dreams of her future. The man in the opening scene has a one night stand with her and she ends up being pregnant. This is a japanese women who stays on the hill overlooking the habor and doesn't leave this hill the whole time the man is away in the Navy. Years later he returns to the hill to find Madama and the baby. All he does is take the baby and leave with a new woman he met. Madama ends up killing herself because she just couldn't take the pain.
The way this animated version was made, was done very well. It makes it very easy to understand what happens in the actual opera and how it has the dramatic ending. At the time the opera was based around, it was a great representation of how men actually treated women at the time when they were in the Navy or an force. I think the opera itself was quite disturbing but played out very well done with animation. From my perspective of never hearing of this opera until now, I feel as if I could totally give someone a base idea of what this opera is about. The animated version was laid out short & sweet, yet gave each detail of the play so well.

The Cathedrals

The cathedrals were very well known and a huge deal starting in the 12th-century. The Notre Dame cathedral was the first to use flying buttress'. These were used to stop the cathedral from from cracking, expanding, or collapsing. This cathedral was also known as "Our Lady of Paris." Every cathedral is typically dark, the main light of them is the sunlight. The Notre Dame cathedral is also known for its rose window. The window was completed in the 13th century and the glass work is still intact to this day. Cathedrals soon became a place people chose to go to just to hang out and be with each other. The music, art, and atmosphere is what attracted the people and is what they wanted to be around.
The gothic era lasted until about the 16th century, the Roman era is what led to the gothic era being pushed aside. The inside of all the cathedrals have many similarities but of course are different in their own ways. When music was played or sung inside the cathedral, it had a different sound that was soothing and much more enjoyable to the people. Coming to the cathedrals just to listen to the music is what was wanted and achieved for this era. Boys were only allowed to sing or be in charge at the cathedrals. The idea of castrating the boys started so they could continue to sing for the people no matter how old they got. These men, you would think now got made fun of for their voices, when actually they were looked at as super stars and women dreamed of being with these men.
